The state-run Korean Western Power company announced on March 21 that it has been selected as the preferred bidder for the 500 MW Manah Solar Power Project in Oman ordered by the Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP).

The Manah Solar Power Project is to build a 1,000 MW solar power plant in the city of Manah in Al-Dakhiliya, 170 kM southwest of Oman’s capital, Muscat. The project was awarded by OPWP in two separate orders Manah 1 (500MW) and Manah 2 (500MW). It will be the largest solar power plant in Oman upon completion

The Manah 1 Solar Power Project won by Korea Western Power is a very large construction project with an investment of about US$460 million. The construction will start in the second half of this year. The power plant is expected to be completed in March 2025.

Korean Western Power will also be responsible for operation and maintenance (O&M) of the solar power plant upon completion. OPWP has guaranteed that it will purchase electric power to be generated by the power plant for the next 20 years.

With these major renewable energy projects, Oman is moving steadily towards a sustainable and green future, ensuring energy security and reducing its carbon footprint.
